Choral Conducting Masterclass
Our candidates, who are chosen after a detailed evaluation between applications made from Artvin, Çanakkale, Hatay, İstanbul, Mardin, Rize and Tunceli; joined seminars and applied courses in order to improve their basic skills in choral conducting, and to be able to configure the choirs in their cities, pursuant to a certain choral culture, discipline and organizational structure.
Besides the seminars, given by MAGMA & Boğaziçi Jazz Choir Art Director Masis Aram Gözbek and his assistant Mert Can Dursun, the masterclass also featured classes about organizational and planning oriented topics over leader/conductor and team/choir themes, given by Gülüm İmrat, the General Coordinator of the choirs.
First meeting, including acquaintance games and general orientation, is done on Monday, 18 November 2019, in the evening. In the seminars, held in Abud Efendi Mansion, owned by Yücel Cultural Foundation, between 19 and 22 November 2019, from 10.30 AM to 07.30 PM; hand and gesture techniques, repertoire, diction, management techniques, rehearsal procedures and binding exercises are presented to applicants both theoretically and practically.
The masterclass repertoire, featuring songs covering all the cities and languages of the project, is practiced by the applicants during the week. Our applicants not only gained conducting experience but also experienced the difficulties a choir member may face, as a member of the masterclass choir.
